Please Pinch Me, I'm Dreaming.....

Ok.  So there is no Ikea anywhere near where I live.  It would definitely take a ride on an airplane for me to get to visit an Ikea store.   It’s very, very sad, I know.  Someday, I vow, I shall get to join the rest of the first world and will get to go browse for hours and hours at an Ikea  to make up for lost time.

So last night I had a wonderful, very pleasant dream that I was in an Ikea.  I was getting to take my time (which is a rare thing for me at a store!) and just browse to my heart’s content.  I remember baskets.  Lots and lots of baskets.  And I even had several in my cart.  Then pots for my back porch.  Then I think I moved on to rugs.  I found the perfect rug for my naked living room floor. Then next came the leather jackets.  Yes-leather jackets.  Now I know that I have never set foot in an Ikea but I don’t think they sell leather jackets. (?)

Anyway…..it was one of those dreams where you are sad to wake up.  I was having such a great time getting to finally experience what others take for granted.  So obviously today I had to shop online to see if I saw any of the items from my dream.  But nothing seemed familiar on their website.  Oh well.  But I did find some items that I put into my virtual shopping cart!  (But didn’t bite the bullet and purchase yet.)

Would love two of these black and white graphic pillows to add some black in the family room.

Grandma Wants Her Chair Back

This is our lovely recliner that we have had for eleven years.  Eleven long years with this beauty.  It matched our sofa (that we sold on the cheap to a family member) that we purchased when we built our house 11 years ago.  It wasn’t so bad then.  I promise.

When we purchased the granny recliner set my husband had a typical man recliner: leather, burgundy, large and in charge.  It also rocked, which I loved then because my baby was two.  (And I don't mean ROCKED!!!, I mean rocked as in moved to and fro from side to side!) Now I despise rocker recliners.  It is one of my pet peeves to be sitting in a rocker and someone (namely one of my children) come up and push on it.  Hate that.

Two years ago, enter these beauties.  Please don't ask me why.  No offense if you own this set but I'm over them. Faux leather couch with matching chair-and-a-half with ottoman to replace the man chair.  I thought the husband would sit in the huge chair and rest his size 14’s on the ottoman.  I was wrong.  He sits in the girly flower chair shown above.  I picked this faux leather set out just for him.  It is not my taste but I thought he would like the chair and I COULD GET RID OF THE FLOWER CHAIR.  Didn’t happen.

I quickly replaced the circle pillows with some a little more my style.  Now I am ready to give grandma her recliner back replace the granny recliner.  So I have to work around the brown sofa and big chair and ottoman (or just getover it.)  I’m thinking a recliner (not rocker) that is a little more streamlined than the normal recliner.  A little more updated.  I am a more traditional person when it comes to my decorating.  I like updated looks but nothing too trendy.  I see the white painted furniture, the distressed furniture, bright accessories and I love it. It is just not me.  I like me some earthy tones.

I'm not too concerned about whether the grandma chair's replacement "goes" with my current couch and chair/ottoman because I hope these will be replaced in the near (or not so near) future.

So far here are the recliners that have caught my eye:

Duncan Bonded Leather Recliner from Overstock.com-$459.00

Woodmont High Leg Recliner from Lazboy-$979.00

Manhattan Armchair Recliner In Leather Whiskey From Pottery Bar-$1999.00

PRI Larson Power Recliner from Wayfair-$684.99

Christopher Knight Home Darvis Grey Recliner Club Chair from Overstock-$218.99

I'm liking #1 and #3 the best.  I really don't plan to shell out $2000 for chair #3 though. I'm afraid #2 and #5 do not look tall enough for my 6'3" husband-who-shoulda-just-sat-in-the-chair-I-picked-out-for-him.  And #4 just looks a little too modern for my simple country self. Choices, choices!

Chocolate Gravy......Yum!

A southern breakfast staple is chololate gravy!  If you have never tried it, you sure need to! We had another snow day yesterday (8th this school year) and my 19 year old woke up at 11:00 a.m. (early for her!) and requested chocolate gravy and biscuits.  Breakfast for her, lunch for me. :)

This time I used Grands frozen biscuits but I do have a great recipe for homemade biscuits I will try with this sometime when I am not so lazy.

(Please excuse iPhone pictures)

CHOCOLATE GRAVY

Ingredients:
·         1 cup granulated sugar
·         1 tablespoon butter or margarine
·         1 ½ cups milk
·         2 tablespoons flour
·         3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions:
1.    Mix all dry ingredients together in a medium saucepan with a whisk.  Stir in milk.
2.    Cook over medium heat stirring constantly.  When the mixture has thickened to the consistency of pudding remove from heat.
3.    Add butter and stir until butter is melted.
4.    Serve over biscuits and enjoy!  (Makes 1 ½ cups)

Fresh Faced Sister

I’ve been using this on my face for about one year now and I am still loving it.  At $30 compared to the Clarisonic’s $125+ price tag, it can’t be beat.  I had problems with my chin breaking out no matter how much I washed my face and what products I used.  This little affordable beauty did the job.  I purchased the Olay Profession ProX cleanser at around $17 and I use it occasionally but I feel like I need something specifically for breakouts.  I pair the rotating cleansing brush with Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash which I have been using for years.  I try to use it every other day if not more often.  My face feels so smooth after using it and I can feel that it gets my face and pores clean deep down.  If you have not tried a rotating brush to cleanse your face you need to!  I am a firm believer in exfoliating often!  I am 42 and am often mistaken for my 19 year old's sister.  Gotta love it! (Even though it makes her mad J)
