Pray for Arkansas

It has been a scary couple of days in Arkansas, Mississippi, and surrounding states.  We had friends in two of the areas hit by tornados, but thank the Lord, they are all okay.  Our friends in Tupelo were just missed by the tornado there.  It did some damage on their street but only damaged trees in their yard.

Please pray for those that lost loved ones.  And remember to tell your loved ones what they mean to you.

No Interaction Please

My 14 year old is learning to drive.  Feeling sorry for me yet?   She had absolutely no experience before this, no golf cart driving, Barbie Jeep driving....Nothing.  My 20 year old was already a decent driver before I starting teaching her to drive a car.  She first had her little red Jeep Power Wheels.  My dad changed the battery on it to a lawn mower battery and that thing would fly.  Well, it would fly for a toy anyway.  She had her own little parking spot in our garage and could parallel park.  No kidding.  Then she took over my husband's old golf cart and drove it all over our neighborhood.  Until the cops followed her and her friends home one day. So when it came time to put her behind the wheel of my car, she was good to go.

Back to my 14 year old.  She had apink Barbie Jeep and it still looked brand new the day we sold it in a garage sale.  She never drove it, so therefore no driving experience.  And the golf cart was long gone.

Her first attempt nearly had me with a busted lip before I put my seat belt on.  No joke.  So we head out in our subdivision yesterday to practice.  She did much better except for the curves.  That was a little scary.  Then.......we meet another vehicle.  She kind of freaks out a little.  She states, "I don't like interacting with other cars Mom."  Well that's not a good thing.

Too bad we can't construct a road just for her that leads wherever she needs to go.

My Happy Place

I spent last weekend doing something that makes me very happy at a place that I love to be.  A softball park. :)  I sure have missed this!  I so look forward to softball season each year.  I like nothing better than watching my girls play sports, whether it is volleyball or softball.  Makes this momma happy.  Me in my Chacos kicked back in a lawn chair watching my girl kick some butt.

Why do my feet look so fat?

We had a tournament in Southaven, MS and it was just a great weekend.  I love playing in Southaven.  Good shopping (Marshalls, Gordmans), good fast food eating places (Abbays, Steak and Shake, Firehouse Subs, Chick-Fil-A) and nice clean softball park.

And what made the weekend even better is that we won first place! (Undefeated too!)  Whoot whoot!  I'm excited about this season of traveling to Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and even Colorado.  Go Blue Angels!

Where did my little girl go?!?

Today is my oldest daughter's 20th birthday!  How in the world am I the mom of a 20 year old?  I just can't wrap my head around the fact that she is not a teenager anymore!  I am so proud of the beautiful young woman she has grown into and I cannot wait to see what great things she has in store!

She had plans to go to the Miley Cyrus concert last night in St. Louis with a couple of friends.  But Miley is in the hospital and cancelled the concert.  Wah Wah. I hate it for Kenz and her friends, but I wasn't thrilled about her seeing Miley in concert.  Not the best example for young girls I must say.  And I definitely wasn't looking forward to them driving to St. Louis which is about 4 hours away.

Anyway....Happy Birthday Kenzie Chey!  I love you more than you will ever know!

Books That I Love

I absolutely LOVE to read and I do not ever leave home without my Kindle.  I literally take it every where I go.  If I were to forget it, then I have my back-up...my iPhone with the Kindle app.  And I'm like a 13 year old girl when it comes to my iPhone.  It is attached to me at all times.

Neither of my daughters are readers and it makes me sad.  I get such joy out of reading and it is such a stress reliever after a long day.  Reading is the last thing I do before going to sleep every single night.

Here are some of the books I have read that I really enjoyed.  If you are a reader, these are must reads.

A "laugh out loud" memoir about marriage.

You just may pee your pants.

Yes, I love me some Jodi Picoult.  All of her books are amazing! My Sister's Keeper has a very different ending than the movie!  You will cry.

Travel Toiletries

We travel A LOT.  Don't be too jealous because we are not talking exotic places or fancy resorts.  We are talking softball fields.  In the 100 degree weather (or sometimes 30 degree weather.)  Part of the year we are traveling every. single. weekend.  We usually don't go too far--usually within about 4-5 hours or less.  The season is just getting started so the only trip we have made is to Birmingham, AL.  Colorado and Atlanta are on our schedule along with a few other destinations a little closer to home.

To make this less stressful, and to save myself from having to find a store to buy forgotten deoderant or a forgotten toothbrush, I keep a bag packed.  The only items I have to remember to add each weekend are my makeup and my hair straightener.  I'm too cheap to buy extras of all my makeup and definately too cheap to buy an extra hair straightener.

Things I have in my travel bag:

  • deoderant (the sport kind-we all get really stinky!)

  • toothbrushes (with travel holders that have a suction cup to hang on mirror in hotel bathroom)

  • floss

  • toothpaste (not those tiny travel ones-the real deal)

  • hairdryer (I do not like the rinky dinky hotel ones)

  • face moisturizer

  • travel packs of Tide (those uniforms are stink-ee!)

  • make up remover cloths (for when I am too tired to actually wash my face)

  • toner (my face feels icky after dirt is blowing in it all day)

  • bobby pins & ponytail holders

  • cotton balls & Q-tips

  • Gold Bond (a must for my ball player when it is hot!)

  • (Bandaids, Ibuprofen, etc. are carried in another bag that goes with me to the ball field)

For my shower items I have a great set up.  I was buying those little travel sizes of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. but we went through at least one every weekend.  So I bought these great little bottles from Target to refill.  I made sure they held enough so I won't have to refill too often.  These are bigger than what you can bring on an airplane so when we fly to Colorado later this year I will have to adjust.

Now I learned very quickly that when these are sliding around the back of a vehicle along with a cooler, softball bag, lawn chairs, etc. they LEAK.  The tops get pushed open and I have a mess.  So I unscrew the lids and put a torn peice of plastic wrap over the opening, then screw the lid back on.

Of course we don't keep up with these little torn bits of plastic at the hotel.  That's when I use the plastic wrapping from the little plastic cups they leave for you.  :)  I tear one of those up and use when we pack up to head back home.

These three little bottles, along with my razor, shaving cream, and face wash go in this nice little hanging travel bag.  This has been the best!  I have had this for a long time--I think I ordered it from Blue Sky Imports online (which after looking it up seems to have changed to Belvah Trading Company http://www.belvahtrading.com/) But I have seen different versions of these around, even at TJ Maxx.  I can just hang it in the bathroom and we can use the items out of it.  That way I won't forget my little bottles in the hotel shower.

If you travel often, I recommend just biting the bullet and buying an extra of everything you may need.  It sure does take the stress of traveling down a notch.

Huh? Could you repeat that?

I am in need of some me time!  This week has been busy to say the least.  And next week will be just as busy.  But I need to carve out some time to do something enjoyable.  I'm sure most working moms think this on a weekly basis though.  With kids ages 14 and 19 I know I have it easier in some ways than many moms.  I'm at a point where my kids are self sufficient....for the most part.  Or at least they can be when I force them to be. :)

But I would just like to go shopping by. my. self.  And I don't mean grocery shopping.  Or maybe even see a movie!  I am dying to see Divergent.  I read all three books but I'm afraid that the movie will be long gone from the theatre before I get the chance to go see it and I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD.  That's just not the same. :(

I loved Shailene Woodley in The Secret Life of the American Teenager and I'm excited to see her play Tris in this trilogy.  Now if only I can find time to go see it.

But funny story.  My 14 year old daughter went to see it last night (for the 2nd time!) and my dad, who is going on 80, bless his heart, called her right before the movie.  Let's just say he MIGHT could use a hearing aid.  Bless his heart.  He asked her where she was--the movies.  Who with--a friend.  What movie is she seeing--Divergent.  He says, "Detergent?"  No--Di-verg-ent.  "Virgin?"  No--Di-verg-ent.  "Oh, okay."  He later asks me why I'm letting my 14 year old see a movie about virgins.

Hand Me My Bag Target

Ok now, Target has done it again.  Have you seen their handbags lately?  They have some pretty nice ones right now.  And as I type this, they are BOGO!  Do I need any more signs to tell me that I need to order a couple of them?

Here are the ones that I'm eyeballing.....

Merona Interweave Hobo Handbag  $79.99

Suede Trim Hobo $49.99

Merona Coral Hobo $36.99

Bueno Textured Tote in Cognac $39.99

Mossimo Hobo withTassel  $49.99

Here are the crossbody bags I am liking.  I always keep a crossbody bag in my car so I can stash my wallet and a few other necessities in it when I am shopping.  I carry waayyyyy too much stuff in my regular purse and if I have to carry it for very long my neck starts to hurt.  So I can just take what I have to have in my little crossbody and save me some neck pain.

Limited Edition Crossbody  $26.99

Merona Crossbody  $22.99

Meron Interweave Crossbody $49.99

I'm not sure how any of these will look in person but returns are easy with Target so it's worth the try.  My favorites that I have in my online cart (we shall see if I can resist or not) are the first one for $79.99 and for my little shopping needs, the last one for $49.99.  Now the question is...do I need to buy one get one....or buy two get two???
