Sweet, Sweet Freedom!

This afternoon, around 3:35 p.m., I will officially be on summer vacation!  Can I get a Whoop Whoop!?!

My immediate plans:

Sleeping in, napping, watching shows on my DVR, laying by the pool.  Not much else for at least a day or two!

Can't wait for this summer to begin!

Much Needed Day Off!

It was back to work for me yesterday after a much needed day off from work/school!  We were out of town for softball from Friday until Sunday so getting the day off from school for Memorial Day was sooooo needed.  (Thank you to all Veterans, including my Dad, for your sacrifices!)

Since our school chose to go to school during our Spring Break to make up for the 16 (yes...16!) snow days we had this winter, the day off was very appreciated!  And since we have been out of town most weekends for softball (which I love and wouldn't trade for the world!), it was nice to have that down time.

My day started off sleeping in until 7:45.  What happened to my days of youth when I could sleep until noon?!?  I watched a little morning television (Kelly and Michael and The View) and then did a little laundry.  (Can't let those softball clothes sit-they are some STINKY!)

Then the rest of the day was spent like this........

A Little Pool Volleyball!

We designed our pool with pool volleyball in mind-we love it that much!  It is one depth all the way across and we had holes for the net done when the concrete was poured.  Most of our time in our pool is spent playing volleyball or laying out on a raft to tan.

Pork Steaks on the Big Green Egg-Yummmmmm!

All I can say about the Big Green Egg is IT'S THE BOMB!  We absolutely love it!  Any meat cooked on it is exceptional.  My husband cooked some pork steaks on there for about 4 hours and they were so tender and flavorful.  Burgers, steaks, veggies--everything has such a good flavor.  We hardly ever use our gas grill any more.

Finally Putting Flowers in My Planters!

I grabbed some flowers and an ornamental grass to liven things up around our pool a little.  The pot on the right had something green come up from last year.  Wish I could remember what it is!

It was a great day in which I rested A LOT and accomplished a little too. :)

Suprise!!!

Last month my daughter turned 20 (still hard to say that!) and her sweet friends threw her a suprise birthday party at our home.  She didn't have a clue. :)

Being that she's 20 and not 5, I didn't do much in terms of decorating.  I made a banner using Anders Ruff's free printable banner.  Found here.   I printed it on a colored laser printer, used a paper cutter so my cuts would be straight, and glued the prints to yellow card stock (also cut with paper cutter), then glued the peices to a hot pink ribbon I had in my stash.  It was the hit of the party!  Thanks Anders Ruff!

I picked up some flowers at Wal-Mart and put them in an old vase I had and added some polka dot balloons (also from Wal-Mart.)  Simple, yet she loved it.

Her cake was not what I asked for (I think they must have gotten my order mixed up with someone elses design or the lady that took the order just wrote something random down!) but it was not bad.  It tasted good and that's all that mattered to my daughter!

My husband grilled some burgers and hot dogs, I made a corn dip to serve with corn chips, and Asian cole slaw and a good time was had by all. :)

And yes, we made her wear a Birthday Girl button.

Homegoods-Yes I Went There

I finally got to go to Homegoods!  The nearest one is about two hours away and I've not been to that one.  But I did go to one in Alabama recently.

I was like a chubby kid let loose in a candy store.  Just ask my two friends that were with me.  I think they were in awe of my shopping gung-ho-ness.  I went down each and every aisle very slowing and carefully to take everything in.  It was intense.  It was almost too much for me to take in all at once! Sensory overload.

I walked away almost $200 poorer but me oh my, I found the motherload!  Every single item I purchased was something I had been on the look out for!  I wanted to take picture of the experience but didn't want to embarrass anyone.

What I found:  (EEK! I'm still jacked.)

I needed a box with a lid for our desk.  I am going to use it to keep computer cords, camera card readers, and my label maker hidden from view.  I previously had them in an open decorator box and I don't like seeing the jumbled mess of cords.  This box will nip that in the bud and look pretty at the same time.

I purchased these four cloth baskets for clean laundry.  I put all clean undies, sox, bras, p.j.'s in these and my family empties it out if they want clean stuff.  Or they can just make a trip to the laundry room everyday if they want.  Their choice.  I got one for each of us.  My hubby will get the smallest one because he's good about emptying his out often.  Oldest daughter will get the next one up in size.  I will get the next to the largest one because I'm not very good about emptying mine out.  I consider walking to the laundry room each day to retrieive my undies a good form of exercise.  The youngest daughter gets the biggest one.  She changes clothes more than Cher changes outfits in Las Vegas.

Whatcha think about this little beauty?  I love it and plan to bring a little color in our all brown family room with this. And I love this little round bunch of green plastic! Doesn't it just look scrumptious sitting in the red vase? Love it!

And I purchased these two coordinating quilts for my girls' beds.  I have plans to redecorate their rooms this summer.  Paint and all!  And since they don't make their beds, this will serve as their blanket to keep them warm as well as their bedding.  I have decided to not buy them a comforter or coverlet or what ever you choose to call those things.  Why bother when it ends up in a closet or on the floor?

That's my Homegoods haul.  I can't wait to go back someday!

And by the way.  The two friends I went with-well they did not buy one thing.  Nothing.  I don't know if we can be friends anymore.

Run Out and Buy This!

Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer

I just love this stuff!  I just purchased by 3rd tube and not even because I lost one!  I actually used an entire tube. Who ever uses an entire tube of lip stuff without loosing it???  It's that great.

It has the benefits of a lip treatment (like Carmex) that has that little tingle that lets you know it's actually doing something to your lips, but with color!

I wear it every single day and carry one tube in my wallet.  It's sheer enough that I can wear it when I'm dressed down (think yoga pants) but also enough color that I can wear it when I'm dressed up not so down. :)

I like the watermelon color but also have the raisin.  And for five bucks you can get one of every color!  I purchased mine at TarJay.

If you like a little tingle on your lips, getcha some!

Wishing On Wednesday

I am slowly trying to make our back porch into a place that doesn't resemble a man cave.  I have added a few girly touches but still have a ways to go.  If I had an unlimited budget this is what I would love for our covered back porch and a little something for our brick paver patio off of our pool area.

12 / 3 / 4 / 5/ 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10

Some items might be doable....at $99 each for the silk plants (#4) to put on each side of my french doors.  But the round wicker table (#8) at $3,500....uhm, not so much.  The red dining chairs (#5) might be something I would splurg on if I could at $570 for the pair.  Aren't they to die for?!?  We could sure use a new fire pit since ours has melted marshmallows on it. :)  But this one (#10) at $4,675?  Wow.  I think I can scrub those marshmallows off.  Or let the rain slowing rinse them off. :)

The sofa and ottoman (#2) would work so well in front of the t.v we have mounted on the wall of our porch.  I could see many hours lounging on this watching t.v. to make it worth the $1,200.

I really don't see me spending this kind of money for outdoor items that will get covered in pollen, dust, bird poop.  But hey, a girl can wish right?

Shopping With My Girls

I'm wiped.  I guess I'll chalk it up to getting old.  After school yesterday I took my two girls shopping.  And we shopped til we I dropped. We crammed a whole lot of shopping in a mere six hours.  Getting home at 10:30 p.m. makes this old woman TIRED.

Anyway...here are some of our finds:

$36.00

These are THE BOMB.  The soles are made out of yoga mats.  The upper part is a nice, stretchy knit.  Cute and comfy.  I have a pair from last summer and I bought a pair for my oldest daughter, AKA, the birthday girl.

I got these for my 14-year-old but I would love them for myself. (Me-size 7 + Daughter-size 10=Can't Share) I think these would be cute with a pair of jean capris and a bright colored tee.  Of course I would wear them without socks-I told my daughter that these remind me of the Keds we used to wear in the 80's and that we wore them with white socks turned down.  I wish you could have seen the look on her face.  Her response was, "Just don't Mom."

Picked up this cute little grey pillow for my mom.  She had knee replacement surgery (OUCH) last Monday and needed something to prop her leg upon.  I did try to find one a little cheaper that would work but unless I wanted a hot pink teeny bopper one, no luck.  I can always steal it back from her when she is all healed.

$29.90 Buy One/Get One for $9.90

Love these tees from Express.  My 14 year old old the blue one and I got the black and white one.  I'm boring and wear way too much black!

Got this cute bra and I'm loving the neon straps! I picked up a plain Jane one since they were two for

We finished the night with a great meal at Olive Garden...yum.
